Frankfurt Airport Transfer: Plan Your Transport With CabRide

Thousands of passengers land at Frankfurt Airport every day, and for a lot of them the hardest part of the trip starts after arriving. Our chauffeurs pick up passengers here every day, so we’ve written down what we see, step by step, to help you plan a Frankfurt airport transfer that works.

Your journey at a glance

1. Confirm your airport

2. Book your transfer

3. Choose the right vehicle

4. Plan around your arrival time

5. Land and find your terminal

6. Clear passport control and collect your bags

7. Meet your chauffeur

8. Travel to your destination

9. Arrange your return journey

Step 1: Confirm Your Airport

It sounds obvious, but this is where the most expensive mistakes happen. Two airports use the name “Frankfurt”, and they are nowhere near each other.

Frankfurt am Main (FRA) is the big international airport, about 12 to 15 km southwest of the city centre. Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN) is a much smaller airport out in the Hunsrück, more than 100 km to the west. Some low-cost airlines sell Hahn flights as simply “Frankfurt”, and some travellers only discover the difference after they land.

Before you book any onward travel, look at the three-letter code on your ticket. If it says HHN, you need a Frankfurt-Hahn transfer, which is a much longer drive.

Step 2: Book Your Transfer

Booking transfer online takes about two minutes. We’ll ask for a few details, and each one has a reason behind it:

Your flight number - This lets us follow your flight live, so we know when you actually land.

The lead passenger’s name - It goes on the sign your chauffeur holds in arrivals.

Your destination - Plus any stops on the way, such as a hotel before a meeting.

How many people and large suitcases are travelling - This decides which car we send.

Anything extra - For example child seats, step-free access or a pram or ski bag.

Your confirmation then shows the fixed price, the exact meeting point and a phone number that is answered day and night. Rides start at €50, and most trips into the city centre come to between €50 and €60, depending on the car and the time of day. That price doesn’t change if traffic is slow or the driver has to take a detour. If you want to know what goes into the fare, our article on Frankfurt airport transfer costs breaks it down. And if your plans change, you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup.

Step 3: Choose the Right Vehicle

People usually count passengers and forget about suitcases. Two travellers with four large cases need more room than three travellers with hand luggage.

As a rough guide, a sedan suits one or two people with normal luggage. A van works better for families, small groups or anyone carrying extra bags. For larger groups, a minibus can be arranged through our group transfer service in Frankfurt, so everyone travels together on one booking. If you’re unsure, go one size up. After ten hours on a plane, nobody complains about having too much space.

Travelling with children? In Germany, children under 12 who are shorter than 150 cm have to sit in a proper child seat. Taxis waiting outside the terminal don’t have to carry them, which can leave families stuck at the rank. Tell us your children’s ages when you book and we’ll bring the right seats, free of charge.

Step 4: Plan Around Your Arrival Time

Two things about Frankfurt are worth knowing before you fly.

Very early arrivals

FRA has a night-flight ban, so there are no regular scheduled flights between 23:00 and 05:00. The result is that a lot of overnight long-haul flights all land shortly after 5 in the morning. At that hour trains run less often, and when several wide-body aircraft arrive at once the taxi queue grows fast. This is exactly when a pre-booked Frankfurt airport transfer earns its keep: the car is already there, however busy the terminal is.

Trade-fair weeks

Frankfurt hosts some of the biggest trade fairs in the world at Messe Frankfurt, including the Frankfurt Book Fair every October. During fair weeks, hotels fill up, roads around the exhibition grounds slow down and cars get booked well in advance. If your trip falls in one of those weeks, book your transfer as soon as your flight is confirmed. The Messe Frankfurt event calendar shows what’s on.

Step 5: Land and Find Your Terminal

Frankfurt Airport now has three passenger terminals. Lufthansa and its partner airlines still fly mainly from Terminal 1. Many of the airlines that used to be in Terminal 2 have moved to the new Terminal 3, which opened in April 2026 and now handles international flights.

Terminal assignments can change, so it’s worth checking your airline’s website or app before you travel to see which terminal and check-in area you need. The free SkyLine train runs between the terminals, which makes it easy to get from one to another. Follow the signs at the airport and give yourself enough time to reach your departure terminal, especially if you’ve never flown from Frankfurt before.

Step 6: Clear Passport Control and Collect Your Bags

If you’re flying in from another Schengen country, you’ll usually walk straight through to baggage reclaim. Coming from outside Schengen, for example from the UK, the US or most of Asia, you’ll go through passport control first. On a busy morning, the queue can feel longer than the flight itself.

You don’t need to hurry. Every CabRide pickup includes 60 minutes of free waiting, counted from when your plane actually lands, not from the time on the timetable. We watch your flight the whole way, so if it’s late, the pickup simply moves with it, at no extra cost.

Step 7: Meet Your Chauffeur

Your chauffeur waits inside the terminal with your name on a sign. In Terminal 1 that’s arrivals hall B or C, depending on your gate. In Terminal 2 it’s the marked meeting point in the arrivals hall.

The exact spot is in your confirmation. If you can’t see your driver or anything is unclear, call us on +49 69 8700 15450, at any hour. Your chauffeur will take your luggage and walk with you to the car, which is parked close by.

Step 8: Travel to Your Destination

The airport sits just southwest of the city, right next to the motorway network, so most trips are short.

We drive regularly from the airport to Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Mainz, and further afield, to Cologne for example, with our city-to-city service. If your day is full of appointments, the hourly chauffeur service keeps a car and driver with you between them. Companies that travel often can open a business account, which keeps bookings and invoices in one place.

Step 9: Arrange Your Return Journey

It’s easiest to book the trip back at the same time as your arrival. Your chauffeur picks you up from your address and drops you at the departure level, at the entrance closest to your airline’s check-in desks. In busy periods, leave yourself some extra time for check-in and security.

When the Train Is the Better Choice

We’d rather give you good advice than sell you a ride you don’t need. There’s a regional train station directly under Terminal 1, and the S-Bahn gets you to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof in around 15 minutes. If you’re on your own, travelling light, staying near the main station and landing during the day, the train is quick and cheap.

A private transfer makes more sense when you’ve got heavy bags or small children, when you land very early or late, when your address is away from the S-Bahn lines, or when you’d simply like someone to meet you and drive you to the door.

Frequently Asked Questions on Frankfurt Airport Transfers

1. How far in advance should I book a Frankfurt airport transfer?

At least 24 hours before you land is best. In trade-fair weeks and school holidays, book a few weeks ahead. Same-day bookings are possible when a car is free.

2. Where will my chauffeur be waiting?

Inside the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name. In Terminal 1 that’s hall B or C, depending on your gate. In Terminal 2 it’s the marked meeting point. The exact spot is in your confirmation.

3. What if passport control takes a long time?

Your chauffeur waits. Every airport pickup includes 60 minutes of free waiting from landing, which is enough for passport control and baggage in most cases.

4. Do I need to tell you if my flight is delayed?

No. We track your flight using the flight number and move the pickup time automatically, free of charge.

5. Will the chauffeur help with my luggage?

Yes. Your chauffeur carries your bags from the arrivals hall to the car and again at your destination.

6. How long is the drive from Frankfurt Airport to the city centre?

Usually 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic, over a distance of roughly 12 to 15 km.

7. Can you take a larger group?

Yes. We have vans and minibuses for families and bigger groups, and everyone can travel on one group booking.

8. Do you pick up late at night or very early in the morning?

Yes. CabRide runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year, weekends and public holidays included.

9. Can I book a transfer from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport?

Yes, but remember that Hahn (HHN) is a separate airport more than 100 km from Frankfurt Airport (FRA). Make sure you book a Hahn transfer.

10. Can I book my return Frankfurt airport transfer at the same time?

Yes. You can book a one-way or return trip in one go. On the way back, your chauffeur drops you at the entrance nearest your airline’s check-in.
